Have we accidentally bred some dogs for obesity?

We had a black lab, American line. Big guy at 75 lbs but he had a big frame. Vet wasn't overly concerned about his weight though given his size. Total chow hound when pizza was in the house because ONE day I fed him a tiny bit of crust. After that he would whine incessantly when we had pizza...

Airstream imagines its first electric trailer: The eStream concept

It's going to be crucially important that the trailer and the towing vehicle be in sync with another. Just like a freight train with multiple locomotives. When you have a train like this, usually the front locomotive commands the others. I imagine something similar will have to be implemented...

US Air Force spends $60 million on supersonic commercial airliner

This seems like a very niche product. Airlines are more about shipping more travelers for less dollars over longer distances than doing it quickly. In fact, they rarely push the current aircraft they have to maximum speed in order to save on fuel.

Hyundai hints at Ioniq 7 with its latest concept EV, SEVEN

Most SUVs have a liftgate. Pioneered on the minivan but quickly came to SUV market because it is so much easier to load stuff in the back.

Pixel 6 teardown shows lots of heat dissipation, questionable mmWave layout

I just got my Pixel 6. It replaces my 3a XL. I would have kept it but I dropped and cracked the screen last week :(. Anyway, I find the size of the phone just fine. Coming from the XL, the slightly narrower 6 is more comfortable in my hand. It is a little heavier though. Not a big deal. I don't...

Boeing removes valves from Starliner, delays flight to first half of 2022

Always seems to be valve problems plaguing spacecraft. IIRC SpaceX also had valve problems with their original capsule. This was on the abort motors though that they hoped to double as landing thrusters. In the end they gave up on it and that's why they splash land in the ocean.

Thanks but after Play Music was shutdown I moved onto Spotify. Bye Google.

The James Webb telescope has a bona fide launch date

So 50 deployments and 178 major release mechanisms that all have to work 100% and no chance of servicing if they don't. I'm not confident in such a design. Maybe they should have had it pitstop at the ISS to do all the unfurling business. Then, if something goes wrong, have the crew do a...

Point-to-point Wi-Fi bridging between buildings—the cheap and easy way

Thanks. Funnily enough Amazon Canada has the CPE510 at about $40 cheaper than the CPE210.

Point-to-point Wi-Fi bridging between buildings—the cheap and easy way

Jim, thanks for the write up. I've been looking for something like this to resolve low WIFI signal strength in my pool shed. The Sonos unit I have in there sometimes gets a little cranky because it can't stream fast and consistent enough. Also I have my pool lights automated (pump and heater...

Google is killing Android Auto for phones (if you even know what that is)

I use Android Auto for phones in my older car. The car is old enough that it didn't even come with bluetooth originally. I had to add an aftermarket adapter. It works fairly well - not great but adequate for my needs. I like the fact that Android Auto pops up automatically when the car starts...

The Google Pixel 5a is $449, adds a bigger screen and water resistance

Yeah, I don't understand why not Canada either. Approval by the FCC and other US regulatory bodies are usually just rubber stamped by their equivalents in the Great White North.
