In the 1940s, Theremin Pole (old spooky movies and The Beach Boys' 'Good Vibrations') inventor Leon Theremin invented a wireless, no-metal wooden plaque of The Great Seal of the United States that the Soviet government presented to the US Ambassador. Once searched and scanned for listening devices, it was displayed in the ambassador's office. It was activated by an electromagnetic energy source outside of the embassy (usually in a motor vehicle), and was able to hear every conversation inside the ambassador's office.
